Individual Counseling
What if the behaviors you criticize yourself for are actually ways you learned to protect yourself?
If you struggle with codependency, low self-worth, people-pleasing, or losing yourself in relationships, attachment-centered therapy can help you understand the why beneath your patterns. Together, we’ll explore how these behaviors once served an important purpose—and how, even if they helped you then, they may no longer be serving you now. You’ll learn to recognize your emotions not as problems to suppress, but as meaningful signals. We’ll bring them into the open, explore the beliefs that fuel them, channel them to the right source and discover healthier ways to honor your needs—for your own well-being and for the people you love. Your emotions aren’t the enemy; they’re a gift. Let’s learn how to listen to them.
I provide in-person counseling to adults and teens 14-years-old and up. I will provide family sessions at an individual client’s request, and on a case-by-case basis. My services center on the treatment of interpersonal trauma, which includes domestic violence, sexual assault, and attachment trauma.
Other specializations include: anxiety; depression; grief and loss; LGBT populations; religious trauma and spirituality; life transitions; and immigration and acculturation issues. My approach with LGBT individuals is affirming, individualized, culturally responsive and humble. I have done specialized work with women for two decades, gaining experience in gender-based discrimination, pre- and perinatal care, the demands of being a working mom. See below for my approach with men. Lastly, I enjoy using the Enneagram – a personality construct – and teaching empowerment skills to any client who may be interested.
working with men
In counseling men —and in rearing sons— I’ve developed a deeper appreciation of the unique challenges men face in society, and the compassion and accountability that is required of their healing and living in authenticity and confidence. In today’s world, I find many men are misunderstood and seeking direction and practical tools to help them make meaningful changes and take more leadership in their lives, relationships, and work.
I’ve received extensive training and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field of men’s work—many of whom lead men’s retreats and with whom I regularly collaborate. I also frequently collaborate with couples therapists who refer men to me for individual therapy which can help address personal patterns, communication, emotional regulation, responsibility, and other issues that directly affect the couple’s relationship.
